Doha, Qatar – ExxonMobil Qatar held an annual recognition ceremony this week for more than 40 female students from Qatar University (QU) and Community College Qatar (CCQ) who have taken part in its sponsorship and internship programs this year. The graduate students were given special recognition at the event, which was hosted by Mr. Abdullatif Al-Naemi, ExxonMobil Qatar’s Human Resources Manager.
Every year, ExxonMobil Qatar offers internship and sponsorship opportunities to students from local universities as part of its efforts to promote human and educational development. These experiences can be potentially effective in enhancing employability skills and prospects, encouraging career-decision making, and preparing for real workplaces. They also help students and young people develop an in depth understanding of day to day professional roles.
“We are very proud of the students who took part in our programs this year – I would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication,” said Al-Naemi. “At ExxonMobil, we are fully aware that our industry is central to sustainable development, as oil and gas are key pillars of the global energy system and drivers of economic and social development. Many of our community programs are focused on educational development – they contribute to the Qatar National Vision 2030 by ensuring that young people are prepared with the necessary skills to thrive in the future economy. Essentially, we want to support national efforts to reach Qatar’s sustainable development goals.”
“The students who participate in these programs also gain first hand oil and gas industry knowledge. As an industry that is vital to Qatar’s economy and to the global economy as well, it is important that the Qatari workforce of the future is aware of the significant role it plays in contributing to economic growth,” he added.
The event also included a special address by Ms. Reem Al-Suwaidi, General Manager of Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (Bedaya Center), the joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank and Silatech, who spoke to the group about her own experience as a young graduate who was eager to join the workforce and why she supports budding entrepreneurs and creative thinkers so they can achieve their goals and dreams.
“As a mentor, advisor and supporter of new businesses in Qatar, I cannot stress enough how essential internships are for young people. The most important part of internships is that they combine classroom knowledge with practical application and skills developed in a professional setting. They also bring a wealth of benefits to students, both while completing a degree and when seeking a career path post-graduation,” said Al-Suwaidi.
“I have no doubt that this exceptional group of young women will put their experience to good use. They have great potential, and I look forward to hearing about their successful endeavors and contribution to Qatar’s economic future,” she added.

These programs are designed to create a pool of skilled professionals across the public and private sectors that can build a framework for Qatar’s sustainable future.
