Overview

In the early 1990s, Qatar faced the challenge of developing the North Field, the world’s largest non-associated gas resource. His Highness The Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani had a vision, however: to build a strong, international partnership that would maximize the value of the nation’s resources for the advancement of all.

ExxonMobil’s predecessor company, Mobil, was invited by the State of Qatar to help develop this resource, and over the next two decades would leverage innovative technology and scale to allow Qatar to compete in the global market. Today, ExxonMobil Qatar commemorates more than 20 years of this partnership with Qatar Petroleum through joint ventures RasGas and Qatargas. We continue to work diligently to help drive the country forward as it supplies the world with the secure and reliable energy that will be needed as populations and living standards continue to rise.

Economic and environmental development

ExxonMobil Qatar provides the energy to support responsible and sustainable development through ExxonMobil Research Qatar (EMRQ). In line with Qatar’s National Development Strategy 2011–2016, EMRQ’s work revolves around protecting people and preserving Qatar’s environment and marine life, including its iconic dugong population.
