Doha, Qatar – ExxonMobil Qatar hosted a recognition event for more than 40 female students from several Doha-based universities earlier this week. The event is held annually in the final quarter of the year as part of ExxonMobil Qatar’s outreach efforts to support human and educational development in Qatar.
The event, which took place at ExxonMobil Qatar’s headquarters, included students from Qatar University, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar, and Community College of Qatar. Both students currently sponsored by the company and graduate students were in attendance, and many were honored for high academic achievement over the course of the event.
ExxonMobil Qatar’s National Development Manager Abdullatif Al-Naemi welcomed the group and spoke to them about the company’s involvement in several national educational development initiatives. He explained that ExxonMobil Qatar provides internship and sponsorship opportunities to students from local universities every year. These opportunities allow Qatar’s youth to gain hands-on, professional work experience and a better understanding of how their country’s natural resources are developed, given the importance the industry plays in Qatar’s economy and efforts to achieve its National Vision 2030.
Hind Al Saad, Learning Officer at Qatar Development Bank (QDB), followed as the featured speaker for this year’s event. She spoke to the group about the Al Fikra National Business Competition, an annual competition ExxonMobil Qatar has sponsored for the past five years that attracts some of Qatar’s most talented, creative and socially conscious young people to help them develop new entrepreneurial ideas.
“I am delighted to be ExxonMobil Qatar’s guest speaker at this recognition event,” said Al Saad. “We work with partners like ExxonMobil Qatar who share the same vision as us and who work for the same causes we feel strongly about; but more importantly who serve our country and contribute to its future economic success.”
“At Qatar Development Bank, we promote, foster and perpetuate the entrepreneurial tradition for young people so that we can strengthen our national economy. We want to inspire as many young Qataris as possible to be part of our mission, and today, ExxonMobil Qatar provided us with an opportunity to do so,” added Al Saad.
“We invited our partner Qatar Development Bank to speak at today’s event because they have provided a platform through their national competition that fosters skills for innovation and growth,” said Al-Naemi. “Like us, they believe in the power of unleashing human potential in creating positive and lasting economic outcomes. We want the students who are part of our network to know about these opportunities and others that can help them make a difference in their communities and to Qatar.”
“The development of a knowledge-based society is dependent on the creation of knowledge and of ideas,” explained Al-Naemi.“This is the kind of society His Highness The Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani envisions for Qatar and the reason why we invest so much of our time and effort into supporting education programs and initiatives that inspire innovation and develop individual competencies.”
In line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, ExxonMobil Qatar continues to develop its education and human development programs with a number of local organizations. Such programs are helping to build a pool of professionals across all sectors that will be vital to Qatar’s future economic success.
